Overview

Xano's rate limiting feature is a must-have for guarding your API endpoints against too many requests and potential misuse. Think of it as a gatekeeper that decides how many requests an endpoint can handle within a set period. This keeps the server from getting overwhelmed and ensures everyone gets their fair share.

Setting up rate limiting means creating rules that say how many requests are okay and for how long. By using these rules, you'll avoid slowdowns, boost security, and keep things running smoothly for anyone using your API. Knowing how to set up these rate limiting options in Xano gives you the power to manage traffic to your API efficiently.

How to use Xano’s rate limiting feature for API endpoints?

Step 1: Log into your Xano Account

First things first, log into your Xano account. You need to do this to get to your dashboard and manage those API endpoints.

Step 2: Navigate to the API Section

Once you're in the Xano dashboard, head over to the API section. You'll find your API endpoints listed there. It's usually on the left-hand menu.

Step 3: Select the API Group

Pick the API Group that has the endpoints you want to set rate limits for. Click on that API Group to open up its settings.

Step 4: Access Rate Limiting Settings

Inside your chosen API Group, look for the “Settings” tab. Click on it, and you'll see the rate limiting options.

Step 5: Enable Rate Limiting

In the “Rate Limiting” section, there should be an option to enable rate limiting. Just toggle it to "On".

Step 6: Configure Rate Limit Rules

Now that rate limiting is on, you can set up the rules:

  • Requests per Period: Decide how many requests are allowed.
  • Time Period: Set the time frame for the limit (like per minute, hour, or day).

Step 7: Apply Rate Limiting to Specific Endpoints

You can also apply rate limiting to specific endpoints. Pick the endpoint from the list and set its rate limiting rules if you want.

Step 8: Save Changes

After setting everything up, don't forget to save the changes. This makes sure the rate limits are active and working on your API endpoints.

Step 9: Monitor Rate Limiting

Keep an eye on the rate limiting by checking the logs and analytics that Xano provides. This helps you make sure the limits are working as they should.
