Overview

Xano’s built-in OAuth providers make it super easy to hook up for user authentication and authorization. You can connect with popular platforms like Google, Facebook, and GitHub. This way, you keep your API secure without the headache of dealing with sensitive user credentials directly. Using these providers not only streamlines user logins but also boosts security and gives users a smoother experience. This guide will lay out the steps needed to set up and configure OAuth providers within Xano, ensuring your apps can safely talk to external authentication services.

How to use Xano’s built-in OAuth providers?

Step 1: Sign Up or Log In to Xano

First things first, if you don't have a Xano account, go ahead and sign up. If you already have one, just log in. Easy peasy.

Step 2: Access the OAuth Providers Section

Head over to the OAuth Providers section. You’ll usually find it under the "Authentication" or "Integrations" menu, depending on how the dashboard is set up.

Step 3: Choose an OAuth Provider

Pick the OAuth provider you want to use from the list. You’ve got options like Google, Facebook, and GitHub. Choose your favorite!

Step 4: Configure Provider Credentials

Get the client credentials (Client ID and Client Secret) from the OAuth provider's developer console. Pop these credentials into the right fields in Xano.

Step 5: Set Redirect URIs

Set up the Redirect URIs in your OAuth provider’s dashboard. These URIs should match your app’s endpoints that handle the OAuth callback.

Step 6: Test the Integration

Once you’ve got everything configured, test the integration. This usually means sending the user to the provider's authentication page and then bringing them back to your specified redirect URI.

Step 7: Handle OAuth Tokens

After a successful login, handle the OAuth tokens (Access Token, Refresh Token) as per your app’s logic. Make sure to store these tokens securely for future API calls.

Step 8: Implement OAuth Login in Your Application

Add the OAuth login flows into your app. For frontend apps, this usually means redirecting users to the OAuth provider’s authentication page. For backend apps, start the OAuth flow and handle the tokens as needed.

Step 9: Monitor and Troubleshoot

Keep an eye on the authentication flows for any hiccups. Use logging and analytics tools to troubleshoot any issues that come up during the OAuth process.
