How to use Glide’s choice component for filters?

Step 1: Open Your Glide App

  • Log in to your Glide account.
  • Open the app where you want to add the filter feature with a choice component.

Step 2: Go to the Layout Editor

  • Head over to the app's Layout Editor by clicking on the "Layout" tab in the left sidebar.
  • Pick the specific screen where you want to set up the filter options.

Step 3: Add a Choice Component

  • Hit the "+ Add Component" button.
  • Choose "Choice" from the list of available components.

Step 4: Configure the Choice Component

  • Set the Data Source for the Choice component:
  • Select the spreadsheet tab or data collection where your filter options are stored.
  • Pick the column that has these filter options.
  • Configure the Value Column:
  • This should point to the column where the actual values for filtering are stored.

Step 5: Link Choice to User Specific Column

  • Create a new User-Specific column if you don't have one already.
  • In the Choice component settings, set the Write to column to this User-Specific column.

Step 6: Display Filtered Data

  • Add a new component to display data (e.g., List, Inline List).
  • Set the Data Source for this component to the same collection you used earlier.
  • Click on the Filters section of the component's settings.

Step 7: Configure Filters

  • Add a filter rule by clicking on "+ Add Filter".
  • Set the filter condition to match the values from the User-Specific column.

Step 8: Style Your Choice Component

  • Customize the look of the Choice component by selecting options like:
  • Choice Style: Choose dropdown, horizontal chips, or other styles.
  • Visibility: Set when the choice component should be visible based on other conditions.

Step 9: Test Your Filter

  • Preview your app to make sure the Choice component is filtering the data correctly.
  • Make tweaks in the Layout Editor if needed.

Step 10: Publish and Share

  • Once you're happy with the filter functionality, publish your app.
  • Share your app with users so they can use the filter feature.
