How to use Figma's feedback and approval tools for client reviews?

Step 1: Share the Design with Your Client

  • Open up your Figma project.
  • Click that "Share" button in the top-right corner.
  • Pop in your client's email and set their permissions (like Can View or Can Comment).
  • Hit "Send Invite" to share the link with your client.

Step 2: Enable Commenting on the Design

  • Make sure the design file allows commenting.
  • If it’s not already set, go to "Share" settings and pick "Anyone with the link can view and comment."
  • Depending on security needs, you might want to add password protection too.

Step 3: Add Contextual Comments and Instructions

  • Use the "Comment" tool (shortcut: C) to leave notes right on the design.
  • Click on the specific area of the design to mark it and type your instructions or questions.
  • Tag your client using the "@" symbol followed by their name so they get notifications.

Step 4: Client Reviews and Comments

  • Ask your client to review the design and leave comments directly in Figma.
  • Make sure they use the "@" mention feature to direct queries or feedback to specific team members.

Step 5: Address Client Feedback

  • Go through the comments and make the necessary changes to the design.
  • Use the "Resolve" button in the comment panel to mark comments as done once the feedback has been addressed.
  • If you need more details, reply to the comment for additional info.

Step 6: Utilize Figma's Version History

  • Access the version history by clicking on the "File" menu and selecting "Show Version History."
  • Label important versions for easy reference and to create milestones in the project.
  • This lets the client view previous versions and compare changes for better approval decisions.

Step 7: Seek Final Approval

  • Once revisions are done, let your client know to review the final version.
  • Highlight any big changes and make sure all comments have been resolved.
  • Use email or a Figma comment to explicitly ask for final approval.

Step 8: Lock the Design

  • After getting final approval, consider locking the design file to prevent any more changes.
  • You can also make a copy of the approved design to keep the final version intact.
  • Let your client know that the design is now locked and approved for implementation.
