How to use Adalo's text chat component?

Step 1: Sign In to Adalo

Alright, first things first, log in to Adalo with your credentials. If you don't have an account yet, no worries, just sign up and create one.

Step 2: Create a New App

Next, hit "Create New App" on the dashboard. Decide if you want a Native Mobile App or a Desktop Web App. You can also pick a starting template if that makes things easier for you.

Step 3: Configure Your App

Give your app a name and pick a color scheme. This part is super important for your branding and how users will feel when they use your app.

Step 4: Add a Screen

On the left sidebar, click the "+" button to add a new screen. You can start with a blank screen or choose a template that fits your needs.

Step 5: Navigate to Components

Now, click on the "Components" tab on the left sidebar. Look for the "Text Chat" component.

Step 6: Drag and Drop the Text Chat Component

Drag and drop the Text Chat component onto the screen where you want it in your app's workspace.

Step 7: Configure the Text Chat Component

Once you've placed the Text Chat component, click on it to open its settings. You'll need to configure a few things:

  • Messages Collection: Pick a collection to store chat messages.
  • Users Collection: Choose a collection that has user profiles.
  • Current User: Make sure this is set to the authenticated user.
  • Chat History: Decide if users should see past messages when they enter the chat screen.

Step 8: Customize the Design

Tweak the design properties to match your app’s theme. You can change fonts, colors, and the layout of the chat bubbles.

Step 9: Add Necessary Data Collections

Head over to the "Database" tab and make sure you have collections for Users and Messages. Create relationships between these collections if needed, like linking each message to a user.

Step 10: Implement Workflow Actions

Click on the chat component and set up the actions you need. For example, when a user sends a message, you'll need an action to update the message collection with the new message.

Step 11: Preview Your App

Click the "Preview" button in the upper right corner to test your text chat feature. Send a message to see if it shows up in the chat and check if everything works as expected.

Step 12: Publish Your App

Once you're happy with your text chat component, go back to the main dashboard and click "Publish" to make your app live.

Make sure to test it thoroughly on different devices to ensure it works well under various conditions.
