How to use Adalo's form validation?

Step 1: Add a Form Component

Alright, let's get started! In the Adalo app editor, head over to the screen where you want to plop that form. On the left sidebar, you'll see a bunch of components. Just drag and drop the "Form" component right onto your screen. Now, pick the data collection that this form will be linked to. Easy peasy, right?

Step 2: Configure Inputs

Next up, click on the form to dive into its settings. Here, you can add all the input fields you need. Think Text Input, Date Picker, Email Input, and whatever else your heart desires. Make sure each input is labeled properly so users know what to do.

Step 3: Set Up Validation Rules

Now, let's make sure our inputs behave. For each input field, you'll want to set up some validation rules. Click on an input field to open its settings. Here, you can set conditions like:

  • Minimum and maximum character length for text inputs.
  • Regex patterns for more complex stuff (like email formats).
  • Mark fields as required by toggling the "Required" option.

Step 4: Add Conditional Actions

To make sure users don't submit incomplete forms, we'll add some conditional actions. Click on the "Submit" button of the form. In the actions panel, set up conditions like "If Email is empty" or "If Password is less than 8 characters". Then, add actions like showing a popup message or changing the input field's style to indicate an error.

Step 5: Create Custom Error Messages

If you want to show custom error messages, here's how: Add a "Text" component near each input field for displaying error messages. Use visibility rules to show these messages based on the form inputs' states. For example, make the error message visible when the corresponding input field doesn't meet validation requirements.

Step 6: Test the Form

Time to see if everything works! Preview the app and test the form validations. Enter different inputs to check if the validation rules are doing their job. If something's off, debug by checking the conditions and actions you set up earlier.

Step 7: Adjust as Needed

Based on your testing, go back and tweak the form validation rules, error messages, and conditional actions. The goal is to make sure everything runs smoothly and the data is spot on.
