How to use Adalo's barcode scanner component?

Step 1: Add the Barcode Scanner Component

  1. Open your Adalo project and head to the screen where you want to pop in the barcode scanner.
  2. Hit the "Add Component" button on the left-hand panel.
  3. Type "Barcode Scanner" in the search bar.
  4. Click on the Barcode Scanner component to drop it onto your screen.

Step 2: Configure the Barcode Scanner

  1. Select the Barcode Scanner component on your screen.
  2. Over on the right-hand panel, tweak the scanner settings to fit your needs. This includes choosing what types of barcodes it should scan (like QR codes, EAN codes).
  3. Set the "Scan Action" to decide what happens when a barcode is successfully scanned. You can set this to do things like update a database, jump to another screen, or show a message.

Step 3: Add a Collection to Store Scanned Data

  1. Navigate to the "Database" section from the left-hand panel.
  2. Create a new collection or use an existing one where the scanned barcode data will be stored.
  3. Add fields to this collection that will store the barcode data, such as "Barcode Value" and "Scan Date".

Step 4: Bind the Barcode Scanner to the Collection

  1. Go back to your screen with the Barcode Scanner component.
  2. Select the Barcode Scanner and scroll to the "Scan Action" settings in the right-hand panel.
  3. Choose "Update Logged-In User" or "Create New Record" as the action, then select the collection you set up in Step 3.
  4. Map the scanned data fields to the corresponding fields in your collection.

Step 5: Test the Barcode Scanner

  1. Preview your app by clicking on the preview button at the top right corner.
  2. Use a barcode or QR code to test if the scanner is working correctly.
  3. Upon scanning, check that the data is correctly stored in your collection and that the specified actions are executed.

Step 6: Publish or Share Your App

  1. Once you're happy with your setup, head back to Adalo's main dashboard.
  2. Publish your app by following the publishing steps for iOS, Android, or as a web app.
  3. Share the app link with users to start scanning barcodes and accessing the stored data.
