How to set up user authentication in WeWeb?

Step 1: Create a Project in WeWeb

  • Open WeWeb and sign in to your account.
  • Click on "Create New Project".
  • Choose a template or start from scratch.
  • Name your project and click "Create".

Step 2: Set Up Your Database

  • Head over to the "Database" section.
  • Create a new table just for users.
  • Add fields like email, password, username, etc.
  • Make sure to set the right data types for each field.

Step 3: Enable User Authentication

  • Go to the "Settings" tab in your WeWeb project.
  • Click on "Authentication".
  • Flip the switch to turn on authentication for your project.

Step 4: Configure Authentication Providers

  • Under "Authentication" settings, add your auth providers (e.g., Email/Password, Google, Facebook).
  • For Email/Password, set up the options for sign-up, sign-in, and password reset.
  • For OAuth providers like Google or Facebook, you’ll need the Client ID and Client Secret from those platforms.

Step 5: Set Up Sign-Up and Login Forms

  • In the Layout Editor, create new pages for "Sign Up" and "Login".
  • Drag and drop form elements (e.g., input fields for email, password) onto these pages.
  • Configure each input field to match the database fields.

Step 6: Create User Auth Workflows

  • Go to the Workflow editor.
  • For the Sign-Up form, create a workflow that:
  • Hashes the password (if not using OAuth).
  • Creates a new user entry in the database.
  • Redirects users to a welcome/dashboard page upon successful sign-up.
  • For the Login form, create a workflow to:
  • Authenticate users based on their credentials.
  • Redirect to the dashboard upon successful login.

Step 7: Set Up User Permissions

  • In the "Permissions" settings, define roles (e.g., Admin, User).
  • Set up access levels for different roles to control which pages or data each role can access.

Step 8: Test Your Authentication

  • Go through the sign-up and login process to make sure everything works correctly.
  • Check if roles and permissions are applied as expected.

Step 9: Deploy Your Project

  • Once everything is tested and working, deploy your project by clicking on the "Deploy" button in the dashboard.
  • Share the link with your users so they can start signing up and logging in.
