How to set up site search in Webflow?

Step 1: Add the Search Component

Head over to your Webflow Designer.
On the left panel, click the "+" icon to add something new.
Under "Components," find and drag the "Search" component onto your page.
This search component includes a search form and a search results page.

Step 2: Style Your Search Form

Select the search form on your canvas.
Use the right panel to style the search input field, search button, and any other elements to match your design.
Make sure to use unique classes for the search form for later tweaks.

Step 3: Configure the Search Results Page

On the left panel, click the "Pages" icon.
Go to the default "Search Results" page under Utility Pages.
Change the layout and design of the Search Results Page to fit your site’s look.
Add and set up the "Search Results" component if it’s not already there.
Style the search results items within the component using the right-hand design panel.

Step 4: Customize Search Result Items

Click on any search result item on the Search Results page to customize it.
Using the right design panel, adjust the text, images, and links in each search result.
Link elements like titles or images to their corresponding CMS collections or static pages.
Use conditional visibility options to show different search result elements based on the type of content found.

Step 5: Enable Site Search Settings

Go to your Project Settings by exiting the Designer and clicking the gear icon next to your project name.
Select the "Search" tab from the navigation menu.
Toggle the "Enable Site Search" setting to "On".
Adjust the indexing preferences to include or exclude specific CMS collections, static pages, or elements.
Save your settings by clicking the "Save Changes" button.

Step 6: Publish Your Website

Return to the Designer once all customizations and settings are done.
Click the “Publish” button in the top right corner of your designer interface.
Choose the domains you want to publish to and click the "Publish to Selected Domains" button.
Wait for the publish process to finish, allowing Webflow to index your site.

Step 7: Test Your Search Functionality

Once your site is published, go to your live website.
Enter a search term in the search input field.
Check that the search results show up correctly and that all links and styles are as expected.
If needed, go back to the Designer or Project Settings to make any necessary adjustments.
