How to set up an event countdown in Glide?

Step 1: Create a New Glide App

  1. Head over to the Glide website (www.glideapps.com) and log in with your credentials.
  2. Hit the "New Project" button to kick off a new app.
  3. Pick a template or start fresh by selecting "Blank App."

Step 2: Add a New Tab for Countdown

  1. In the Glide app editor, check out the left sidebar and click on the "Tabs" section.
  2. Click the "+ Add Tab" button to whip up a new tab.
  3. Give this tab a name that makes sense, like "Event Countdown."

Step 3: Create a New Google Sheet or Glide Table

  1. If you're using Google Sheets, pop over to your Google Drive and create a new Google Sheet.
  2. Name the sheet something like "Countdown."
  3. Add two columns: "EventName" and "EventDate."

For example:

EventName      | EventDate
My Event Name  | 2023-12-31T00:00:00Z

If you're using Glide Tables, add the same columns within the Glide data editor.

Step 4: Populate the Data Source

  1. Link this Google Sheet or Glide Table to your Glide App by going to the "Data" tab in the Glide editor.
  2. Click the "+ Add" button to add a new data source and select your newly created Google Sheet or Glide Table.
  3. Make sure the data correctly reflects the event name and date.

Step 5: Adding a Countdown Component

  1. Head back to the “Layout” tab of the "Event Countdown" you created.
  2. In the components menu on the right, scroll down until you find the "Countdown" component.
  3. Drag and drop the "Countdown" component onto your chosen tab.

Step 6: Configure the Countdown Settings

  1. Click on the "Countdown" component to bring up its settings.
  2. For the "Source," choose the column that has the event date.
  3. For the "Time Format," pick your preferred display format (you can select days, hours, minutes, etc.).
  4. Add a label to the countdown timer if you want, like "Days until My Event."

Step 7: Customize the Appearance

  1. In the settings pane for the countdown component, choose the design and color settings to match your app's theme.
  2. Adjust the layout, style, and other customizable options.
  3. Preview the app to make sure the countdown timer looks just right.

Step 8: Test and Publish Your App

  1. Test the countdown feature thoroughly to ensure it is correctly counting down to the specified date and time.

  3. Once you're happy with it, publish your app using the "Publish" button in the top right corner of the Glide editor.
