Overview

Setting up either a public or private app in Glide? It's all about picking the best access settings for your audience. If it's a public app, anyone with the link can hop right in and start using it. Perfect for sharing broadly and getting lots of engagement without any hurdles. On the other hand, a private app locks things down—only users you've approved can see what's inside. This is great for handling confidential info or keeping things within a tight-knit group. You'll have to explore Glide's interface to tweak those visibility settings and manage user access according to what you need.

How to set up a public vs. private app in Glide?

Setting Up a Public vs. Private App in Glide

Step 1: Open Glide and Select Your App

  • Head over to Glide (https://www.glideapps.com/).
  • Go to your dashboard where all your apps are hanging out.
  • Pick the app you want to set up as public or private.

Step 2: Go to App Settings

  • Once your app is open, check out the left-hand side panel.
  • Click on the Settings icon (usually looks like a gear).

Step 3: Access the Privacy Settings

  • In the Settings menu, find and click on the Privacy tab.

Step 4: Choose Privacy Mode

  • Under the Privacy tab, you'll see different privacy options like Public, Public with Email, Password Protected, and Private.
  • Pick the one that fits your needs:
  • Public: Anyone with the app link can get in.
  • Public with Email: Users need to give an email to get in.
  • Password Protected: Users need a password to get in.
  • Private: Only specific users can get in (you'll have to add their emails manually).

Step 5: Configure Additional Settings (if Required)

  • If you chose Public with Email or Private, you might need to tweak some extra settings:
  • Public with Email: Toggle options to let users sign in and manage how they sign in.
  • Private: Add user emails manually by typing them in the provided field. You can also upload a list of emails if you have a bunch of users.

Step 6: Save Changes

  • Once you've picked and set up your privacy settings, don't forget to save your changes.
  • Look for a Save or Apply Changes button, usually in the upper right corner of the settings menu.

Step 7: Test Your App

  • Make sure your settings are working as you want:
  • If it’s public, anyone should be able to open the link.
  • If it’s private or email-protected, test the app by logging in or entering the approved email addresses/passwords.
