How to set up a full-screen overlay menu in Webflow?

Step 1: Create a new div block for the menu

  1. Head over to the Webflow Designer.
  2. Drag a "Div Block" from the Add Panel onto the canvas.
  3. Give this div block a class name, like full-screen-menu.

Step 2: Style the div block

  1. With the full-screen-menu div block selected, set its position to Fixed.
  2. Set the top, bottom, left, and right values to 0 so it covers the entire screen.
  3. Set the z-index to a high value like 9999 to make sure it overlays all other content.
  4. Set the background color to your desired color, for example, solid black (#000000).
  5. Set the display property to Flex and then center-align items both vertically and horizontally.

Step 3: Add the menu items

  1. Drag a "Div Block" inside the full-screen-menu div block.

  2. Give it a class name like menu-items-container.

  3. Set its display property to Flex, direction to Column,, and align items to Center.

  4. Set appropriate padding and spacing as needed.

  5. Inside the menu-items-container, add link blocks or text links for each of your menu items.

  6. Style these links as per your design requirements.

Step 4: Create the menu button

  1. Drag a "Button" or "Link Block" to your site’s header or any prominent place suitable for the menu button.
  2. Style this button, and give it a class name like menu-button.
  3. Add text like "Menu" or a hamburger icon within the button.

Step 5: Add interactions

  1. Select the menu-button and go to the Interactions panel.
  2. Create a new "Mouse Click (Tap)" interaction.
  3. Set the first click to affect the full-screen-menu. Choose the action "Show/Hide" and set it to Display: Block.
  4. For the second click, choose the action "Show/Hide" and set it to Display: None.

Step 6: Apply closing functionality to menu items

  1. Go to the Interactions panel again.
  2. Select each menu item and add a "Mouse Click (Tap)" trigger.
  3. Set its action to hide the full-screen-menu. Choose "Hide/Show" and set it to Display: None.

Step 7: Ensure responsiveness

  1. Switch to different viewports (tablet, mobile landscape, and mobile portrait) and adjust the styles of the full-screen-menu and menu-items-container as needed.
  2. Verify if the interaction works smoothly on all devices and make final tweaks to ensure a seamless experience.

The steps outlined will help in setting up a full-screen overlay menu in Webflow, ensuring it looks and functions well across different devices.
