How to integrate Google Drive with Adalo?

Step 1: Set Up Google Cloud Console

  1. Head over to the Google Cloud Console.
  2. Either start a new project or pick one you already have.
  3. Find your way to the "API & Services" dashboard.
  4. Hit "Enable APIs and Services".
  5. Look up "Google Drive API" and turn it on.
  6. Switch to the "Credentials" tab.
  7. Click on "Create Credentials" and go for "OAuth 2.0 Client IDs".
  8. Fill out the necessary fields to set up the consent screen; this will create an OAuth consent screen for your project.
  9. After setting up the consent screen, you'll be asked to create OAuth 2.0 Client ID credentials. Pick "Web application" as the type.
  10. Set the "Authorized redirect URIs" to https://auth.expo.io/@your-username/your-project-slug.
  11. Save the Client ID and Client Secret that pop up.

Step 2: Configure Adalo Google Authentication

  1. Open your Adalo app and head to the settings.
  2. Navigate to the "Authentication" settings.
  3. Turn on Google Authentication.
  4. Paste the Client ID from the Google Cloud Console into the Google Client ID field in Adalo.
  5. Save those settings.

Step 3: Create a Collection to Store Files

  1. Go to the "Database" section in Adalo.
  2. Create a new collection, give it a fitting name (like "Drive Files").
  3. Add properties to this collection such as "File Name", "URL", and any other metadata you need.

Step 4: Create File Upload and Drive Integration Workflows

  1. In your Adalo app, set up a screen where users can upload files.
  2. Add a file picker component to this screen.
  3. Set up actions so that when a file is picked, it gets uploaded to a temporary storage (like Adalo or a third-party cloud storage).
  4. Use a custom action powered by Google Drive API to move the file from the temporary storage to Google Drive.
    • You'll need to set up custom actions using Adalo’s API integration capabilities.
    • Prepare the API call to https://www.googleapis.com/upload/drive/v3/files?uploadType=multipart.
    • Include the access token and file metadata in the API request headers and body.

Step 5: Save File Metadata in Adalo Database

  1. After successfully uploading a file to Google Drive, capture the response that includes the file ID and URL.
  2. Create an action to save this metadata in the “Drive Files” collection you made earlier.
  3. Use these stored details to build functionality in your app for viewing or downloading files from Google Drive.

Step 6: Test the Integration

  1. Test the whole flow by signing in with a Google account and uploading a file.
  2. Make sure the file gets uploaded to Google Drive and the metadata is saved in Adalo.
  3. Check if the file can be accessed and viewed/downloaded properly in your app.
