How to integrate Firebase Authentication with Salesforce?

Prepare Salesforce for Firebase Authentication

Alright, let's get Salesforce ready to accept JWT tokens from Firebase. Here's how you do it:

  • Log in to your Salesforce account.

  • Head over to Setup.

  • In the Quick Find box, type 'Auth. Providers' and select it.

  • Click New Auth. Provider and pick 'Open ID Connect'.

  • Give it a name, like 'Firebase Authentication'.

  • Enter the URL Suffix, which can be the same as the name.

  • For the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret fields, just put any value. Firebase doesn't need these.

  • Leave the Authorize Endpoint URL, Token Endpoint URL, Default Scopes, and Send access token in header fields blank. Firebase doesn't use these.

  • In the Token Issuer field, type https://securetoken.google.com/[project-id], replacing [project-id] with your Google project id.

  • For the Custom User Info Endpoint URL, enter https://www.googleapis.com/identitytoolkit/v3/relyingparty/getAccountInfo?key=[api-key], swapping [api-key] with your Firebase API key.

  • Do the same for the User Info Endpoint URL: https://www.googleapis.com/identitytoolkit/v3/relyingparty/getAccountInfo?key=[api-key].

  • Click Save. You'll see a screen with the generated Callback URL. Copy that URL.

Connect Firebase to Salesforce

Now, let's move on to Firebase.

  • Log in to your Firebase account.

  • Open your Firebase project.

  • Click the gear icon on the left side and select 'Project Settings'.

  • Go to the 'Service Accounts' tab.

  • Under Firebase Admin SDK, click 'Generate New Private Key'.

  • Download and save the JSON file with the service account credentials.

  • Go to the Authentication section.

  • Under the 'Sign-in Method' tab, click 'Email/Password' and make sure it's set to ENABLED.

  • Navigate to the 'Cloud Messaging' tab.

  • Copy the 'Server Key'. This is the [api-key] you'll use in Salesforce.

Finalize the Connection

Let's wrap this up:

  • Go back to your Salesforce account.

  • Navigate to the Auth. Providers screen.

  • Under the Firebase Authentication entry, click the Callback URL.

  • Copy the Callback URL from the page that appears and paste it into the Redirect URI field in the Firebase Project Settings.

  • Click Save.

And there you have it! Firebase Authentication is now hooked up with Salesforce.
