How to integrate Dropbox with Adalo?

Step 1: Set Up a Dropbox Account

First things first, if you don't have a Dropbox account yet, you'll need to create one. Just head over to the Dropbox website and follow the sign-up steps. It's pretty straightforward.

Step 2: Create an App in Dropbox

  1. Go to the Dropbox App Console.
  2. Hit "Create App".
  3. Choose "Scoped access" and then pick either "Full Dropbox" or "App Folder" based on what you need.
  4. Give your app a unique name. Make it something cool!
  5. Confirm to get your app key and secret. You'll need these later.

Step 3: Obtain Access Token

  1. In the Dropbox App Console, find the "Settings" tab for your new app.
  2. Scroll down to the OAuth 2 section.
  3. Click "Generate" under "OAuth 2 Access Token".
  4. Save that access token somewhere safe. You'll use it in Adalo.

Step 4: Configure Adalo External Collections

  1. Open up your Adalo project.
  2. On the left sidebar, go to "Database" and then select "External Collections".
  3. Click "Add Collection" and choose "Custom Collection".
  4. Give your collection a name, like "Dropbox Files".
  5. For the Base API URL, enter https://api.dropboxapi.com/2/files/list_folder.
  6. Go to "Endpoints" and set up the Get All and Get Single sections:
  • Method: POST
  • URL: https://api.dropboxapi.com/2/files/list_folder for Get All and https://api.dropboxapi.com/2/files/get_metadata for Get Single.

Step 5: Set Up Authorization Headers

  1. In External Collections, go to “Options” and click on “Headers”.
  2. Add these headers to authenticate your API calls:
  • Key: Authorization
  • Value: Bearer YOUR_ACCESS_TOKEN (replace YOUR_ACCESS_TOKEN with the token you got in Step 3)
  • Key: Content-Type
  • Value: application/json

Step 6: Design Adalo UI Components

  1. Drag and drop components like "List" from the left sidebar into your Adalo screen.
  2. Bind the List's data to the External Collection (Dropbox Files).
  3. Customize the List to show files by specifying data fields like name, path, and file size.

Step 7: Test the Integration

  1. Preview your Adalo app.
  2. Make sure the list or other connected components display Dropbox files as expected.
  3. If something's not working, check the API request logs and headers to troubleshoot.

And there you have it! Your Adalo app should now be talking to Dropbox like old friends. If you run into any hiccups, just tweak the settings until everything's running smoothly.
