How to handle pagination in Adalo?

Step 1: Prepare Your Collection

First things first, make sure your data in Adalo is neatly organized into a collection. This collection is what you'll be paging through.

Step 2: Create a List

  1. Head over to the screen where you want to add pagination.
  2. Drop in a list component and link it to your collection.
  3. Tweak the list settings as needed, like choosing which fields to show and adding any actions.

Step 3: Set Up Pagination Variables

  1. Add two Number properties to your User collection: Page Number and Items Per Page.
  2. Set some default values, like Page Number to 1 and Items Per Page to 10.

Step 4: Create Pagination Buttons

  1. Add two buttons below your list: "Next" and "Previous".
  2. For the "Next" button, set the action to Update the logged-in user:
    • Increment Page Number by 1.
  3. For the "Previous" button, set the action to Update the logged-in user:
    • Decrement Page Number by 1.
    • Add a condition to make sure Page Number is greater than 1, so you don't end up with negative pages.

Step 5: Filter the List

Time to apply a custom filter on the list to show items based on the current page and items per page:

  1. Click on the list and go to the filter settings.
  2. Create a custom filter using formulas to calculate the start and end index:
    • Start Index: (Page Number - 1) * Items Per Page
    • End Index: Page Number * Items Per Page
  3. Set the filters to show items only between the Start Index and End Index.

Step 6: Configure Visibility of the Previous Button

  1. Set a conditional visibility rule on the "Previous" button.
  2. Make it visible only if Page Number is greater than 1.

Step 7: Test Your Pagination

Preview your app and give the pagination a whirl. Make sure both "Next" and "Previous" buttons update the page correctly and the items displayed change as expected.

Step 8: Optimize Performance

If you're working with a big dataset, think about enabling lazy loading to boost performance. This way, your app will load data more efficiently as users flip through pages.

Step 9: Publish and Review

Once you're happy with how the pagination works, go ahead and publish your app. Keep an eye on user feedback to make sure the pagination is smooth and meets your app's needs.
