This guide dives into different techniques for setting up hover states, from using Figma's built-in interactive components to adding prototyping tools and plugins. Start by designing the button or object that needs a hover state. Make sure this design is part of a component.
Select the base component and make a copy of it. This copy will be used to create the hover state variant.
Change the properties of the copied component to show the hover state. You might want to tweak colors, borders, or shadows to make the hover effect noticeable.
Give your original component a name like "Default" and call the modified one "Hover" so you can easily tell them apart.
Select both the original and modified components and use Figma's "Combine as Variants" feature to group them together.
Switch to the Prototype tab. Click on the Default variant and drag the interaction node to the Hover variant. Set the interaction to "While Hovering."
After setting up the "While Hovering" interaction, test the prototype by entering Presentation mode. Hover over the button to see the state change.
