How to create a workflow to manage multi-step forms in Bubble.io?

Step 1: Set Up Your Bubble Environment

Go to Bubble.io and create a new application.
Choose a blank template to start from scratch.
Set up the pages you need for each step of your multi-step form, or you can create groups on a single page and show/hide these based on the user's progress.

Step 2: Design Your Forms

Drag and drop input elements (e.g., text inputs, dropdowns, radio buttons) onto your pages or groups for each step of your form.
Ensure each input has a unique identifier for tracking user data.
You can add Next and Previous buttons to guide users between steps.

Step 3: Create Custom States

Navigate to the "Element Inspector" and click on the page or group.
Click on the "i" icon next to the element’s name to open the "Element Inspector".
In the Custom States section, add new state fields to track the current step of the form. Name it something like "currentStep".
Make sure the type is a number and set the default value to 1 (representing the first step).

Step 4: Manage Workflows for Navigation

Click on the "Workflow" tab.
Click on the "When" trigger and choose the element that should trigger the workflow (e.g., the Next button).
Select "Element Actions" and then "Set state".
Choose the custom state and set its value to "currentStep + 1" for the Next button and "currentStep - 1" for the Previous button.

Step 5: Show and Hide Form Steps

Go back to the "Design" tab.
Select the group or page that represents each form step.
In the Conditional tab, create a condition that checks the value of the "currentStep" custom state.
Make sure to set the visibility of the group based on the "currentStep" value.

Step 6: Save Data Temporarily

Create a new custom state on the page or relevant group to temporarily store user input data before submitting.
When users navigate between steps, use workflows to save input values to these custom states.
This ensures that data is not lost as users progress through the form.

Step 7: Final Submit Workflow

On the final step, configure the Submit button to create a new thing (e.g., a new data record) in your database.
Set the data fields to take values from your custom states storing the form data.
After submission, you can also reset the custom states to clear the form for a new user.

Step 8: Test Your Multi-Step Form

Test the form by previewing your Bubble app.
Navigate through the steps to ensure that data is being saved and steps are being displayed correctly.
Make any necessary adjustments to workflows or conditions to ensure smooth user experience.

Step 9: Optimize for User Experience

Add error handling and validation checks for each form step.
Consider adding progress indicators to show users how far they are in the process.
Add custom animations for smoother transitions between steps.
