Overview

Creating a wishlist feature in Adalo is quite engaging and requires some important steps. Begin by getting familiar with Adalo's component library and how the database is set up. The next step involves setting up a new collection specifically for wishlist items and building connections between users and their wishlist entries. It’s really important to design interfaces that are user-friendly for both viewing and managing wishlists. Take advantage of actions and automations to make adding or removing items a breeze. Finally, it’s crucial to test the feature thoroughly to ensure everything works smoothly. This whole process makes use of Adalo’s no-code abilities to boost the user experience in your app.

How to create a wishlist feature in Adalo?

Step 1: Setup Collections

First things first, let's create a collection to store the items users can add to their wishlist. You can name it "Items" and include properties like Item Name, Item Description, Item Image, and any other fields you think are necessary.

Next, create another collection called "Wishlist". This will link users to the items they want to save. Include these properties:

  • Relationship to Users
  • Relationship to Items
  • Created Date (optional, but handy for tracking)

Step 2: Set Up Relationships

Now, open the "Users" collection and add a relationship property that connects users to their wishlist items. Choose a "Many to Many" relationship between Users and Wishlist since a user can have multiple wishlist items and an item can belong to multiple users' wishlists.

In the "Items" collection, add a relationship to connect items to Wishlist. Make sure this relationship is consistent with the Users-Wishlist relationship: "Many to Many."

Step 3: Create Item List Screen

Let's design a screen to display the list of items available for wishlisting.

  1. Drag an "Item List" component onto your screen.
  2. Set the source of the list to the "Items" collection.
  3. Choose fields like Item Name and Item Image to display in the list.
  4. Add a button or an icon next to each item so users can add the item to their wishlist.

Step 4: Configure Add-to-Wishlist Action

Time to set up the action for adding items to the wishlist:

  1. Click on the button/icon next to the item in the list.
  2. Choose "Add Action" and then select "Create."
  3. Set the action to create a new entry in the "Wishlist" collection.
  4. For the "User" property, choose "Logged In User."
  5. For the "Item" property, choose "Current Item."

Step 5: Create Wishlist Screen

Now, let's create a new screen to display the wishlist items for each user.

  1. Add a new screen and title it "Wishlist".
  2. Drag a "List" component onto the screen.
  3. Set its source to the "Wishlist" collection.
  4. Filter the list to show items where the "User" is the "Logged In User".
  5. Display fields from the related "Items" collection such as Item Name, Item Image, and Item Description.

Step 6: Set Up Wishlist Removal

We should also allow users to remove items from their wishlist:

  1. On the Wishlist screen, add a button or icon next to each item for removing it from the wishlist.
  2. Set up an action for this button/icon:
  • Choose "Add Action" and select "Delete."
  • Set the action to delete the "Current Wishlist" record.

Step 7: Linking Screens

Finally, make sure users can navigate to their wishlist from the main app:

  1. On the main screen or navigation menu, add a link to the "Wishlist" screen.
  2. Ensure that users can also return to the items list or other parts of the app from their wishlist screen.

By following these steps, you can implement a wishlist feature in Adalo, allowing users to add, view, and remove items from their wishlist effectively.
