How to create a time tracking app in Adalo?

Step 1: Sign Up and Create a New App

  • Head over to Adalo and either sign up or log in if you already have an account.
  • Click on “Create New App.”
  • Pick the Blank App option.
  • Give your app a name and choose if it’s a mobile or web app.

Step 2: Set Up Your Database

  • Go to the “Database” section in the left sidebar.
  • Create a new collection called “Tasks.”
  • Add properties like Name (Text), Start Time (Date & Time), End Time (Date & Time), and Duration (Number).

Step 3: Design the UI

  • Drag and drop a new screen from the “Screens” menu and name it “Task List.”
  • Use the “App Bar” from the components section to add a title to the screen.
  • Drag and drop a “List” component and link it to the “Tasks” collection. Set the list to show the Task Name.
  • Add a plus icon to navigate to a "New Task" screen for adding new tasks.

Step 4: Create a New Task Screen

  • Drag and drop a new screen from the “Screens” menu and name it "New Task."
  • Add input fields for:
  • Name
  • Start Time (Date & Time Picker)
  • End Time (Date & Time Picker)
  • Add a button named “Save Task.”

Step 5: Set Up Actions for the Save Button

  • Click on the “Save Task” button.
  • Set the action to “Create” a new task in the “Tasks” collection.
  • Link each input field to its corresponding property in the database.
  • Add another action to navigate back to the "Task List" screen after saving the task.

Step 6: Calculate Duration

  • Go back to the "Task List" screen and set up a custom action for "Calculate Duration."
  • Use Adalo's “Custom Formula” feature:
  • Set Duration to the difference between End Time and Start Time.

Step 7: Display Task Duration

  • Go to the "Task List" screen’s list component.
  • Edit the list settings to show the Duration of each task alongside the task Name.

Step 8: Test Your App

  • Click on the preview button in the top-right corner.
  • Test the flow: create tasks, start and end times, and make sure the duration is calculated and displayed correctly in the task list.

Step 9: Publish Your App

  • Once everything looks good, click on the settings icon.
  • Fill in the required publishing details.
  • Hit "Publish" to make the app available either as a web or mobile app, depending on your choice during the setup.
