Overview

Building a responsive image gallery in Webflow means using its visual design tools to make sure everything looks good on different screen sizes and devices. Start by placing your images into a grid or flexbox layout; this helps keep everything neat. Adjust spacings and alignment as needed. Make sure the gallery adapts smoothly by setting breakpoints. Webflow’s CMS lets you manage and update your gallery content easily. For those wanting to go a step further, custom interactions and animations can make the user experience even better. Knowing how to do all this ensures your gallery is eye-catching and works well everywhere.

How to create a responsive image gallery in Webflow?

Step 1: Set Up Your Project

  • Fire up Webflow and start a new project.
  • Pick a blank canvas or any template you like as the base for your gallery.

Step 2: Add a Section for Your Gallery

  • Drag a Section element from the elements panel onto the canvas.
  • Give this section a name like "Gallery Section" so it's easy to find later.

Step 3: Add a Container Inside the Section

  • Inside the section you just made, add a Container element.
  • This container will help keep everything neat and responsive.

Step 4: Create a Flexbox Wrapper

  • Drag a Div Block into the container.
  • Set this Div Block’s display setting to Flex.
    • Direction: Horizontal
    • Wrap: Wrap
    • Align: Center
  • Name this div something like "Gallery Wrapper."

Step 5: Add Individual Image Containers

  • Drag another Div Block inside the "Gallery Wrapper".
  • This will be the container for each image. Name it "Image Container."
  • Set the width to a percentage (like 25% for 4 images per row). Adjust as needed.

Step 6: Insert Images

  • Drag an Image element into each "Image Container".
  • Upload and select your images.

Step 7: Style Your Gallery

  • Select the Image Container div.
    • Add padding and margin if needed.
    • Add a border or shadow for a better look if desired.
  • Style the Image to fit inside the container (e.g., set width to 100%).

Step 8: Add Responsiveness

  • Go to the Tablet breakpoint in Webflow.
    • Adjust the width of the "Image Container" to something like 50% (2 images per row).
  • Go to the Mobile landscape breakpoint.
    • Adjust the width of the "Image Container" to something like 100% (1 image per row).
  • Go to the Mobile portrait breakpoint.
    • Ensure the settings carry over or make necessary adjustments.

Step 9: Preview and Publish

  • Switch to preview mode to see how the gallery looks on different devices.
  • Make any final tweaks to padding, margin, or image sizes if necessary.
  • Publish your site to see the responsive image gallery live.
