How to create a personalized news feed in Adalo?

Step 1: Set Up Your Adalo Account

  1. If you haven't already, go ahead and create an Adalo account.
  2. Start a new project or just use one you already have.

Step 2: Create a Database Collection for Articles

  1. Head over to the Database section in Adalo.
  2. Create a new collection and name it Articles.
  3. Add properties like Title, Content, Category, and PublishDate to the Articles collection.

Step 3: Create a Database Collection for Users

  1. Make sure there's already a Users collection.
  2. Add properties to the Users collection for personalization, like PreferredCategories.

Step 4: Design the Main Screen

  1. Drag and drop a list component from the side menu onto your main screen.
  2. Bind this list component to your Articles collection.

Step 5: Add Login and Sign-Up Screens

  1. Drag and drop login and sign-up screens into your Adalo project from the templates.
  2. Make sure the sign-up screen has fields for users to select their preferred categories.

Step 6: Filter the List Based on User Preferences

  1. Click on the list component you added to the main screen.
  2. Go to the "Filter" section in the properties panel.
  3. Set up a custom filter condition so the list shows articles whose Category matches the user's PreferredCategories.

Step 7: Link the User's Preferences

  1. Create a screen where users can update their preferences.
  2. Use form inputs to let users select categories.
  3. Link these inputs to update the user’s PreferredCategories in the Users collection.

Step 8: Test the Personalized News Feed

  1. Preview the app and sign up with a new user account.
  2. Set the preferred categories during sign-up or through the settings screen.
  3. Make sure the news feed on the main screen updates to show articles matching the selected categories.
