How to create a loyalty points system in Adalo?

Step 1: Set Up Collections

  1. Fire up Adalo and either start a new app or open one you've already got going.
  2. Head over to the Database section.
  3. Create a new Collection and call it "Users" if you don't have one already. Add properties like Name, Email, and any other user info you need.
  4. Create another Collection named "Loyalty Points".
    • Add properties like:
    • Points (Number)
    • User (Relationship to Users collection)

Step 2: Add User's Points Display

  1. Go to the Screen where you want to show the user's points.
  2. Drag and drop a Text component onto the screen.
  3. Set the text to show the points using Magic Text. For example, set it to User's Loyalty Points > Points.

Step 3: Create a Points Earning Mechanism

  1. Go to the Screen where users do something to earn points (like making a purchase).
  2. Add a form or button to this screen that triggers the action.
  3. In the action settings, add an Action to update the "Loyalty Points" Collection.
    • Find the current user's points and update it.
    • Set the update to Add the number of points you want the user to earn.

Step 4: Create a Points Redemption Mechanism

  1. Go to the Screen where users can redeem their points (like a rewards page).
  2. Add a List component to show possible rewards.
  3. Create a Button or Form for redeeming each reward.
  4. Set the Button's action to update the user's points in the "Loyalty Points" Collection.
    • Use a formula to deduct the right number of points for the reward.

Step 5: Display Transaction History (Optional)

  1. Create a new Collection called "Transactions".
    • Add properties like:
    • User (Relationship to Users collection)
    • Type (Text, e.g., "Earned", "Redeemed")
    • Points (Number)
    • Date (Date/Time)
  2. Add Actions to Update the "Transactions" Collection wherever points are earned or redeemed.
  3. Add a List component in a new Screen to display the transaction history.
    • Set the List to pull data from the "Transactions" Collection and filter by the logged-in user.

Step 6: Test Everything

  1. Use the Preview function in Adalo to test each step.
  2. Make sure points are correctly added when users do the actions.
  3. Verify that points are accurately displayed and that redemption works correctly.
  4. Check that the transaction history logs each action accurately.

Make adjustments as necessary based on the testing results.
