How to create a forum in Glide?

Step 1: Create a New Project

Head over to Glide.
Hit the "Create a New Project" button.
Pick the type of project that fits your needs, like "Mobile App" or "Web App".
Link your project to a Google Sheet or Airtable database where your forum data will live.

Step 2: Design Your Data Structure

Open up the connected Google Sheet or Airtable.
Set up sheets/tables for “Forum Posts” and “Comments”.
For the “Forum Posts” sheet/table, add columns like:
Post ID
Title
Content
Author
Date Created
For the “Comments” sheet/table, add columns like:
Comment ID
Post ID (to link the comment to the right post)
Content
Author
Date Created

Step 3: Configure Your App’s Layout

Head back to Glide and open your project.
In the Glide interface, click on the “Layout” tab.
Add a new “List” component to show forum posts.
Bind this list to your “Forum Posts” sheet/table.
Customize how each post looks in the list (e.g., show the title, author, and date).

Step 4: Configure Forum Post Details

Click on any post in your list to open the “Details” view.
Add components to show post details:
Text components for the title and content.
Text or Rich Text components for the author and date.
Add a Button component or Form button so users can add comments.

Step 5: Create the Comments Section

In the same “Details” view of a post, add a “List” component for comments.
Bind this list to your “Comments” sheet/table.
Apply a filter to show only comments where the Post ID matches the current post's Post ID.
Customize how each comment looks (e.g., show commenter’s name and comment content).

Step 6: Configure Comment Submission

Inside the “Details” view for each forum post, set up the Form Button to let users submit comments.
In the Form settings:
Map the form fields to the right columns in the “Comments” sheet/table.
Include hidden fields to auto-fill the Post ID and timestamp.

Step 7: Enable User Sign-In and Permissions

Go to the “Settings” tab in the Glide interface.
Enable user sign-in using Google or other authentication methods.
Set up permissions so only signed-in users can post and comment.

Step 8: Publish Your App

Once everything is set up and tested, click on the “Publish” button.
Share the app URL with your potential users, so they can join and contribute to your forum.
