How to create a custom form layout in Glide?

Step 1: Log In and Create a Project

  1. Head over to Glide and log in to your account.
  2. Hit the “New Project” button to start something fresh.
  3. Pick “App from data” or whatever fits your needs best.

Step 2: Connect Your Data Source

  1. Choose where your data is coming from (like Google Sheets, Excel, AirTable).
  2. Link up to your chosen data source and point it to the exact sheet or table where your form data will live.

Step 3: Design Your Data Structure

  1. Make sure your sheet or table has all the columns you need for your form (like Name, Email, Comments).
  2. Add any extra columns you might need, such as Date Submitted, Unique ID, etc.

Step 4: Add a New Screen

  1. Go to the “Layout” section in Glide’s left-hand panel.
  2. Click the “+” icon to add a new screen.
  3. Choose “Form” as the screen type from the options available.

Step 5: Customize Form Components

  1. Click on the form screen you just added to open it.
  2. Hit the “+ Add Component” button inside the form screen.
  3. Add the components you need, like Text Entry, Number Entry, Choice, Switch, etc.
  4. For each component:
  • Set the data source (the column in your sheet or table where this component should save the data).
  • Customize the “Title” and “Placeholder” fields to match your design preferences.
  • Adjust other settings like default values, visibility conditions, and required status.

Step 6: Adjust Form Layout

  1. Drag and drop components to rearrange them in the order you want.
  2. Group related components using “Section Headers” to organize your form visually.
  3. Adjust the spacing and style settings of each component for a more polished look.

Step 7: Configure Form Actions

  1. Scroll to the “Actions” section at the bottom of the form edit page.
  2. Click “Add Action” to specify what should happen when the form is submitted. Common actions include:
  • Show Notification
  • Navigate to another screen
  • Add Row (if it’s not already doing so)
  1. Add any extra actions or conditions needed for your workflow.

Step 8: Test the Form

  1. Preview your app by clicking the “Preview” button at the top.
  2. Navigate to the form screen and fill out the form to test it.
  3. Check your data source to make sure submissions are being recorded correctly.

Step 9: Fine-Tune and Publish

  1. Make any necessary tweaks based on your testing feedback.
  2. Customize any final design elements like colors, fonts, and branding.
  3. Click “Publish” when you’re ready to make your custom form layout live.
