Overview

Setting up Xano’s request validation schemas is essential. It ensures the data your API gets meets precise standards before anything gets processed. You'll define rules like data types, required fields, and value constraints. Configuring these rightly can avoid errors, boost security, and keep data intact in your app. The next steps will show you how to create and apply these schemas in Xano, giving you strong and dependable API endpoints.

How to configure Xano’s request validation schemas?

Step 1: Access Xano Dashboard

First things first, log in to your Xano account and head over to your workspace. On the left side menu, find the "API" tab. That's where you'll access your API endpoints.

Step 2: Select or Create an API Endpoint

Now, pick an existing API endpoint you want to tweak, or if you're feeling adventurous, create a new one by clicking on the "Add API Endpoint" button.

Step 3: Navigate to Request Validation

Inside your chosen API endpoint, look for the "Request" section. There, you'll see a "Validation Schema" tab. Click on it.

Step 4: Define Schema Properties

To set up the schema, hit the "Add Field" button. Enter the field name, pick the data type (like string, number, boolean), and set any constraints you need, such as required, minimum length, maximum length, or pattern.

Step 5: Add Nested Objects or Arrays (Optional)

If your request has nested objects or arrays, click the "+" button next to the field to add those nested fields. Define their properties just like you did for the top-level fields.

Step 6: Apply Conditional Logic (Optional)

For more complex scenarios, you can add conditional logic by clicking on the "Add Condition" button. Set up conditions based on other field values to make sure the request follows your validation rules.

Step 7: Save the Schema

Double-check everything to make sure it matches the expected input format. When you're happy with it, click the "Save" button to lock in the validation schema.

Step 8: Test the API Endpoint

Time to test! Use tools like Postman or the Xano API Explorer to make a test call to your API endpoint. Submit both valid and invalid data to see if the request validation schema works as expected.

Step 9: Monitor and Update as Needed

Keep an eye on how the API endpoint is being used and any feedback you get. Make updates or improvements to the request validation schema as needed to keep up with changes in the API requirements or data structure.
