Overview

Setting up authentication providers in Xano means configuring OAuth so your app can let users log in with services like Google, Facebook, or GitHub. First, you'll need to create an app in the chosen provider's developer console. Grab the Client ID and Client Secret — those are crucial. Then, go to Xano's authentication provider settings and plug in those credentials. Also, don't forget to define the right scopes for your app and be sure to manage the redirection URL for smooth authentication. It keeps user data safe and makes logging in easy.

How to configure authentication providers (OAuth) in Xano?

Step 1: Log into Xano

  • Use your credentials to log into the Xano platform.

Step 2: Navigate to Authentication

  • On the left sidebar, find and click on the "Authentication" section.

Step 3: Add New Provider

  • In the Authentication settings, click on the "Add New Provider" button.

Step 4: Select OAuth

  • Choose "OAuth" from the provider type selection. A configuration modal will pop up.

Step 5: Enter Provider Details

  • Fill in the fields with your OAuth provider details (like Google, Facebook, etc.).
  • Provider Name: Type in the name of your OAuth provider.
  • Client ID: Enter the Client ID from the OAuth provider's developer console.
  • Client Secret: Enter the Client Secret from the OAuth provider's developer console.
  • Authorization Endpoint: URL for the provider's authorization endpoint.
  • Token Endpoint: URL for exchanging authorization code for access token.
  • User Info Endpoint: URL to get user information.
  • Scopes: Enter the necessary scopes required for the OAuth provider.

Step 6: Configure Redirect URL

  • Set up the Redirect URL. This is where the OAuth provider will send users after they authorize the app. Make sure this URL is configured in both Xano and the OAuth provider's console.

Step 7: Save Configuration

  • After filling in all the details, click on the "Save" button to store the OAuth configuration.

Step 8: Testing Authentication

  • Test the OAuth setup by generating a test user flow. You can do this by creating an endpoint in Xano that uses the new OAuth provider for authentication.
  • Create a new endpoint under "API Endpoints".
  • Set the endpoint to authenticate using the configured OAuth provider.
  • Test the endpoint with a tool like Postman or directly in a browser to make sure the OAuth flow works correctly.

Step 9: Monitor and Troubleshoot

  • Keep an eye on the logs and any error messages during testing. This will help you spot and fix any issues in the configuration or flow.

Step 10: Implement in Application

  • Once everything is tested and working, implement the OAuth flow in the app that interacts with Xano. Make sure the app correctly handles token storage and user sessions based on the OAuth provider's responses.
