How to automate reminders in Bubble.io?

Introduction   Automating reminders in Bubble.io can streamline your workflow and help ensure that you and your users never miss important tasks or deadlines. Bubble.io offers a variety of ways to automate reminders through workflows. Here's a detailed step-by-step guide on how to achieve this:   Step 1: Create a New Data Type for Reminders
  • Navigate to the Data tab in Bubble.io
  • Click on “Data Types”
  • Click the “+ New Type” button and name it something like “Reminder”
  • Within the “Reminder” data type, add fields such as:
    • Title (type: text)
    • Description (type: text)
    • Reminder Date (type: date)
    • User (type: user)
Step 2: Build a Form for Creating Reminders
  • Navigate to your design tab.
  • Drag and drop input fields for Title, Description, and Reminder Date onto your page.
  • Create a button named “Create Reminder”.
  • Use a workflow to save this data to your Reminder data type when the button is clicked:
    • Click on the “Workflow” tab.
    • Select the “When Button Create Reminder is clicked” event.
    • Add an action: “Data > Create a new thing”.
    • Set the type to “Reminder” and map each field to the corresponding input boxes (Title, Description, Reminder Date).
Step 3: Setting Up the Reminders
  • You’ll need to set up a backend workflow to send out the reminder.
    • Go to the “Backend Workflows” section under the “Workflow” tab.
    • Click “+ New API Endpoint” and name it, for example, “Send Reminder”.
    • Add a parameter to this endpoint called “Reminder ID” (type: Reminder).
    • Add an action: “Send an Email” or any other notification action you prefer.
    • Configure the email action with dynamic content from the Reminder you are sending (e.g., dynamic data from Reminder fields like Title and Description).
    • After setting up the email content, you can schedule an API workflow on a list:
      • Go to your initial workflow where you create the reminder.
      • Add an action: “Custom events > Schedule API workflow on a list”.
      • Choose your Reminder Data Type for the list.
      • For the workflow, select your “Send Reminder” event and send the “Reminder ID” as a parameter.
      • Set the “Scheduled Date” to the “Reminder Date” field.
  Step 4: Testing Your Workflow
  • Create a new reminder using your form and set the Reminder Date to a few minutes in the future.
  • Wait and check to ensure you receive the reminder notification at the specified time.
Conclusion     With these steps, you can automate reminders in Bubble.io efficiently. This automation can significantly reduce manual follow-ups and ensure timely notifications for users.
