Step 1: Create the Database Collections
 

• First, navigate to the Adalo dashboard and select your app.
• Go to the “Database” tab.
• Create a new collection for "Users" if you don’t have one already. This usually comes pre-configured in most Adalo projects.
• Add a new property to the "Users" collection named "Role." Make it a text property. This will store the role of each user, such as "Admin", "Moderator", or "User".
• Optionally, you can create another collection called "Roles" where you define all possible roles. This helps with managing and assigning roles more efficiently.

 
Step 2: Create Visible Components Based on Roles
 

• Go to the screens in your app where you want to differentiate the user experience based on roles.
• For each component that should only be visible to certain roles, click on the component to open the properties panel.
• Under the "Visibility" section, click “Sometimes visible”.
• Add visibility conditions based on the "Role" property from the Users collection. For example, you might set the condition to “Logged in user’s Role is equal to Admin”.

 
Step 3: Create Role-Based Navigation
 

• Go to the main navigation menu or any navigation buttons in your app.
• For each navigation item, set its visibility as described in Step 2, according to the user's role.
• Optionally, create different sets of navigation items for different roles and show or hide them based on the user's role.

 
Step 4: Assign Roles to Users
 

• Navigate to the screen where users register or where admin assigns roles.
• If it's during registration, add a dropdown or text field where users can select or enter their role. Make sure this field updates the "Role" property in the Users collection.
• If roles are assigned by an admin, add functionality to the admin dashboard that allows them to edit users and set their roles manually.

 
Step 5: Test the Implementation
 

• Create test users with different roles in your Adalo app.
• Login with each user and navigate through the app to ensure components and navigation work as intended based on the user’s role.
• If you encounter any issues, revisit the visibility settings and make sure the conditions are correctly set up.

 
Step 6: Optimize and Launch
 

• Review and optimize the assigned roles and permissions to ensure they are covering all user experience scenarios as planned.
• After final confirmation, publish your app or push changes to the live version.
• Continuously monitor user feedback and be prepared to make adjustments to the roles and permissions as needed.
